The overarching aim of EDDE801, the first course in your doctoral program, is to guide you in the establishment of a broad understanding of distance education, specifically in the prevailing mode of open and distributed learning (ODL). To do this, you will examine ODL theory and practice by investigating relevant issues and topics, past and present; and engage with literature both representative and classic.

This course addresses advanced topics on teaching methods, research on teaching, and the development and delivery of distance courses. Students examine a range of learning theories and instructional frameworks, and explore their application in distance education.

In this first of two senior-level research seminars, students are provided with a supportive environment to engage in active discourse about their dissertation research. Proposal writing and advanced research methods and analyses are addressed.
