Transnational Education (TNE) refers to the delivery of education, including courses and programs, across international borders (cross-border education).  Learners are located in a country that is different from the awarding institution.  The University of Calgary (U of C) in Alberta, Canada, for example,  has a branch campus in the Arabian Gulf State of Qatar. This branch campus is called the University of Calgary in Qatar and offers nursing programs on site.  The degrees and diplomas, however, are awarded by the U of C in Alberta.

There are other forms of Transnational Education. Athabasca University offers its courses and programs to learners throughout the world via distance. Students taking MDDE 614 have been resident in other countries outside of Canada, including Iran, China, and Greece.
